Considering the purchase of a new or used safe? Here is some information that might make the process easier for you.  It may also help to clear up any misconceptions or mysteries you may have about safes.

Purchasing a safe is a big decision in more ways than one.  Following is a list of questions for you to consider when purchasing a safe.


1. What are you going to use the safe to protect - records, computer media, valuables and/or cash?

2. What hazards are you trying to protect against - fire, burglary or both?

3. What is the expected total value of the items you want to protect? Include in this figure any future needs.

4. Does your insurance company have a minimum level of security or safe rating requirement for insured valuables?

5. Where will the safe be located?

6. What is the maximum weight that the floor will safely support in that location?

7. Do you envisage moving are you renting or leasing your premises?

8. How much space do you have available to locate the safe in?

9. What obstructions to door opening are in that area? What is the volume of the items you wish to protect?

10. What are you willing to spend to achieve the level of protection required?
