Uncrackable safe ? No such thing

posted in: General News | 0

There is no such thing as an uncrackable safe for everything that man can make someone else can break. However there are many safes that are designed to make life REALLY hard for any would be safe cracker me included. Safes are made in lots of different grades and the top tier is the Bankers grade, these safes as the name suggests were used almost exclusively by the banks to protect their cash from clever safe crackers.

An example of a Bankers safe is the Chubb Isolator, this safe was manufactured in Sydney in the 1970 and 80’s and is one tough nut to crack. The Chubb Isolator used numerous ingenious designs and materials, it has glass covering the lock mechanism on 4 sides and its body and door used a combination of steel, concrete and special alloys to prevent drilling and cutting. The alloy also had “alloxite nuggets” scattered throughout the mix and this alloy expands when cut with a angle grinder or diamond concrete cutter and clogs up or seizes the blade. or cutting edge.

Today the banks don’t buy such high grade safes because they don’t have as much cash and with the improvements in electronic security techniques can use lower grade cheaper safes such as the Chubb Europa Grade 5. Its worth noting that Chubb safes Australia don’t import the grade 7 safes that Chubb have overseas.

Cracking safes is the stuff of movies and the technique often seen in movies like The Italian Job (the remake) where a safe cracker “fiddles” with the dial of a safe until it opens is known as “lock manipulation” this is used when the combination of the safe has been lost. The Chubb Isolator has twin Chubb Vault locks, these high grade locks used 4 numbers that must be selected before the safe will open. There are many skilled safe technicians that I know who can “dial” these locks open without the numbers in around 60 minutes each lock.

Of course this skill takes years to master and now that digital locks are used on most safes its becoming a lost art. We sell new and second hand safes and have safes from Bankers grade right down to home safe grade. If you would like more info on any safe call me on 1300 556500.

Alas I see lots of so called "safes" that just dont stand up to an attack with even basic tools.
