John Tann Antique Safe [Refurbished & Working]

$1,750.00

This John Tann Antique Safe is a stunning statement safe!

This antique safe made by John Tann, the grandfather of safe makers, is a testament of style and badassery.  It doesn’t offer high fire rating by today’s standards but it was a game changer in its time.   The thickness of the body and door offers protection against modern tools; angle grinders.

John Tann PTY started making locks in the late 1700’s and safes since the early 1800’s, when steel was first used for security purposes.  One of their main customers (1828-36) was Charles Chubb before they were making safes, in fact they would re-brand some of John Tann’s safes.

When this particular safe was built, it benefited from the new modern development of the two new barrier materials called “Tannsteel” and “Tannalloy” developed in the 1930’s and subjected to rigorous tests by the British Oxygen Company against the powerful oxygen lance (explosions).

Still better than a Bunnings Safe but does not have the security measures in place that the models of safes built in the last 5 years hold.  Better yet, this John Tann Antique Safe is a great talking piece and ideal for a collector of things of old/vintage.
