Hey we all like a bargain, in fact I LOVE a bargain. However most often when you buy cheap there has to be a compromise. My tip is buy from the middle, not too cheap not too dear but just right. The first rule for saving money is do your research. Dont take my word alone, read lots of websites and read customer reviews. I regularly point customers to Bunnings website, particularly the product review pages. Anyway back to cheap gun safes. I have 40 years in the safe industry and have had my own business for coming up 30. What I see again and again is the joy of a bargain is often forgotten when it becomes unserviceable.
For the last 30 years I have bought hundreds of drills, electric ones and battery operated ones. With a staff of 20 we go through a lot of tools. Anyway whenever I bought the cheapies I would HAVE to replace them earlier than the quality brands. The SAME does apply with safes, why would it be ANY different ? A good gun safe has a life of between 15 and 30 years, I base this on all the “other safes” we service and resell.
So if you pay $400 for a cheapie and have to replace it every 6 years you have spent $1600 over 24 years. This calculation does not account for price increases or other charges. Transport fees, charges to get it open or time taken to buy a new one or dump an old one. If you pay between $900 to $1800 you MIGHT have to pay 1 service charge. I do understand that shelling out 25% every 4 or 6 years often feels better than forking out a larger fee once.
We stock 3 MAIN brands, Guardall, Lokaway and Huntpro. I WILL NOT SELL garbage, I would have trouble looking my clients in the eye if I did. The 3 brands we sell have a 5 year warranty, that 4 more years than all the cheapies. The reason they give 5 years is they know there is less chance of a break down. The ones I sell use “industry standard” components. I know that if the digital lock fails I can be GUARANTEED I can fit a new one.
I have taken many safe repair calls over the last 10 years and I rekon I am asked to open a cheapie about once a week. There are’nt many gun safes in that stat but its only been the last 10 years that sales for gun safes have increases. So now that this rant is coming to a close, come on down & have look at all the cheap gun safes we stock. Woops we don’t have any sorry but I can sell you one that will give you many years of reliable service. And that’s without even talking about how easy cheapies are to crack compared to a good one.
PLEASE dont think … if a criminal wants to get in he will. I am here to tell you that doing even a little more will deter or force crims to move on or go else where. (see video below )
Lots of safes to in our showroom indicates we know a thing or 2 about safes.

Does this keypad look familiar, if the answer is YES check out the safe cracking video below. $39 for the WHOLE safe, I rekon the lock is worth about $4.
