High security key locks used to be rare in Brisbane. However, we are installing these locks faster than you might think and the reason is the internet. In years past the only places, we installed high security keylocks was in high risk applications. Such as Banks, boardrooms, Jewellery shops, Police interview rooms and other sites where security was paramount. Over the last 33 years, we have seen the number of high security key lock systems available explode. They have grown from 1 or 2 (30 years ago) to more than 12 today and the cost has come down significantly thanks to this competition. One of the most popular high security key locks was Abloy’s 6mm 10 disk lock. This was very popular until someone invented a lock pick & then published it on the Internet. Next came Kaba 20S and installing these high security locks was very tricky.

The High-security lock market in Australia changed dramatically in 1980. Australia Lock Company released the BiLock locking system. This system has dominated the market for the last 30 years. Of course, all good things come to an end. The patents which have protected BiLock from cheap imitations are close to an end. And the keys can easily be decoded and a key cut from 2 strips of thin metal or an old credit card. With even a little practice it’s easy to look at a Bilock key and remember the cut depths and position. This technique is made easier because Bilock uses only 4 depths and the cut positions never vary. The original Bilock is being phased out and replaced with Bilock “exclusive”. This version has very tight tollerences but this also makes the key harder to insert. Australian Lock Company’s latest high security key system is called Galaxy. There has been much discussion on Locksmith forums as to Galaxy’s reliability.
So with all these options the decision as to which high security key locks we should sell was a tricky one. After much searching, we settled upon a high security lock system called EVVA 4KS. Unique in design, ease of use, robust key and with patent protection until 2035. It ticked all the boxes that a high security locking system should. It is pickproof and highly drill resistant and 4KS keys CAN NOT be decoded by sight. It’s also very hard to make a copy using a 3D printer. The incredibly tight tolerances all work together to make it one of the best systems available. Additionally a lock bypass technique called Lock bumping has turned the lock industry on its head. Published in 2005 by a Dutch lock picking group called TOOOL. Lock bumping makes it possible for just about anyone to open a standard lock quickly and easily. This technique also pushed the Govt to act and thus an Australian Lock Standard was born.
