The term “strong room door” is a fairly broad term and really should be separated into 3 sub categories. We have strong room doors for sale in all three grades however the most common is the standard commercial one. Most strong rooms doors are found in old Bank buildings and very few new ones are being installed these days.
1. Bankers grade strong room doors.
Bankers grade strong room doors weigh around 1500kg and have an overall thickness of 300 mm. It’s worth noting that the door is made up of 2 main parts, the outer barrier (slab) and the inner boltwork mechanism. The outer slab is usually 100mm thick and VERY hard to cut or drill and protects the vital workings of the locking mechanism.
2. Book room doors
The 2nd and most popular strong room door is sometimes called a book room door. It is so named as to differentiate it from the former. These doors generally have a 12 mm steel plate as an outer protective layer and similar boltwork or locking mechanisms. Our most popular selling strong room door is the KSSR door which have an overall thickness of 105mm.
3. Armoury strong room doors
The last is an armoury strong room door and these are a combination of the first 2, these doors are far less popular and designed for the military mainly. Strong room doors must be supported by very strong walls as the weight of the door when open can over time cause the wall to fatigue and or give way.
We have 3 strong room doors at our Rocklea showroom and they come with various locking options such as digital, key and spin combination locks. Depending on the installation its also advisable to look at either a emergency release mechanism or a breather tube. We have lots of experience at installing strongroom doors as well as removing them.
Recently we removed a modular vault from a Bank that was undergoing a renovation. These modular vaults are a very good alternative to the tradition “poured concrete” vault. In most instances a strong vault can be made from core filled besser blocks and when supported with a state of the art alarm form a formidable barrier to would be thieves.
